Photo of Iranian female protesters scheduled for execution, shared by President Trump [Truth Social]
U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed the news on the 22nd (local time), stating, "I was just informed that 8 female protesters in Iran who were scheduled to be executed tonight will no longer be killed. This is very good news."
President Trump conveyed this on his social media platform, Truth Social, adding that "4 of them will be immediately released, and 4 will be sentenced to one month in prison."
He continued, "I am very grateful that Iran and its leaders have respected my demand as President of the United States and canceled the planned executions."
The previous day, President Trump had shared an SNS post on Truth Social stating that 'Iran is planning to hang 8 women' along with their photos, and demanded of the Iranian leadership, "I would be very grateful if you would release these women," adding, "This would be a great starting point for our negotiations."
In response, Mizan Online, the official media outlet of the Iranian judiciary, countered, "President Trump has once again been misled by fake news. Some of the women whose death sentences were imminent have already been released, and the rest may receive prison sentences of up to one month if convicted, but not charges for which they would face the death penalty."
