U.S. President Donald Trump claimed, "There was a rigged election in Virginia last night!"

On Tuesday, Virginia voters approved a ballot measure that will allow the state legislature to redraw congressional district boundaries in a way that favors Democrats, outside of the usual cycle.

According to the Associated Press, with 95% of precincts reporting, 'Yes' received 51% of the vote (1,574,808 votes) and 'No' received 49% (1,486,599 votes).

Trump stated on Truth Social on Wednesday, "Republicans were leading all day, it was an unbelievable feeling, and then at the end of the night, huge amounts of mail-in ballots, of course, poured in!" he claimed. "This sounds familiar - Democrats have once again stolen the election!"

He pointed out, "It will go from 6-5 to 10-1, but the Presidential election results in November were very close, 50-50."

Currently, Virginia has six Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives and five Republican members. With the results of this referendum, the newly implemented redistricting plan by Democrats is expected to create 10 seats with a Democratic leaning and 1 seat with a Republican leaning.

In the 2024 presidential election, Trump lost Virginia to Kamala Harris, who received 51.82% of the vote compared to Trump's 46.06%. However, based on congressional districts, Trump won six out of the eleven districts, and by county, Trump won 90 out of 133 counties. Kamala Harris won only 43 counties.

Trump commented, "On top of all of the other problems, the language of the referendum was intentionally confusing and misleading. As everyone knows, I am a very brilliant person, but even I couldn't figure out what they were talking about on that ballot, and neither could they!"

According to local radio station WVTF, the ballot question regarding the redistricting process reads:

"Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?"

The Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a lawsuit, arguing that the wording was confusing or misleading to voters.

In their complaint, the RNC stated that the use of the word "fairness" was a "misleading statement, if not an outright falsehood," arguing that redrawing electoral districts to favor Democrats, from a Republican perspective, is the opposite of fairness.

On the other hand, Virginia Democrats are citing President Donald Trump's demand for more Republican seats as a basis for "restoring fairness."

Trump added, "Let's see if the courts will step in to correct this perversion of 'justice'."

Currently, three lawsuits related to the referendum wording are pending before the Supreme Court of Virginia. A circuit court judge had accepted the objections, but Democrats appealed, and the state Supreme Court allowed the referendum to proceed while reviewing the case.

If the Supreme Court sides with the plaintiffs, the referendum results will be overturned. All eyes are on whether such a situation will occur.
