President Donald Trump on Thursday demanded that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer apologize for remarks criticizing U.S. immigration authorities.

"Wow! Whining Chuck Schumer, in front of the World, said 'nobody respects the Border Patrol or ICE'," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday. "This is one of the most absurd, inaccurate, Unpatriotic, and Dangerous statements I have ever heard from a 'Professional' politician. He should Apologize to these great Patriots immediately, Right Now!"

Schumer made the remarks on the Senate floor while speaking in opposition to a Republican-led spending bill.

"It makes no sense to add $14 billion to two agencies, the Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), that nobody respects in this country," he said.

Senate Republicans criticized Schumer's remarks, stating, "These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to keep Americans safe." They added, "The Democrat Party's hatred for law enforcement is sickening."

Republicans have been trying to provide additional funding to both agencies through a reconciliation plan, which does not require Democratic support.
