Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday announced a proposed map for U.S. House of Representatives districts that would add four Republican-leaning seats in the state.
The map, first reported by Fox News, would limit Democratic seats to three isolated urban areas along the Orlando and southeast coast.
Currently, Florida has 20 Republican seats and 8 Democratic seats. If the new redistricting proposal is approved, the balance would shift to 24 Republican seats and 4 Democratic seats.
This action follows a referendum in Virginia on redistricting, where voters approved a change from 6 Democratic and 5 Republican seats to 10 Democratic and 1 Republican seats.
This also comes on the same day the Supreme Court approved a redistricting plan for Texas, which initiated a series of redistricting efforts.
