  • A big victory for the Republican Party

The federal Supreme Court approved Texas's new congressional map on Monday, with a 6-3 vote.

The Supreme Court overturned the lower court's ruling that found Texas's new congressional redistricting plan to be invalid due to racial gerrymandering.

Texas's redistricting sparked a series of redistricting efforts nationwide, resulting in many states attempting to redraw their districts to alter the balance of House seats in midterm elections.

The court ruled, "Preliminary assessment of this case suggests Texas satisfies the traditional criteria for interim release," and that "Texas is likely to prevail on its claim that the district court committed at least two serious errors."

This indicates that the same reasoning was applied as when the court issued a stay on the lower court's ruling in December of last year.

This decision comes ahead of the Supreme Court's ruling on Louisiana's redistricting case, which could significantly overturn provisions of the Voting Rights Act and trigger additional redistricting efforts across the South, according to JustTheNews.
