President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was indicted on charges including fabricated arguments that a sitting president obstructed the arrest by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) and other controversial allegations, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison in the second trial, a heavier sentence than in the first trial. 

According to legal circles on the 29th, the Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Yoon Sung-sik) of the Seoul High Court, which handles insurrection cases, sentenced President Yoon to 7 years in prison on charges of special obstruction of official duties and abuse of power, as claimed by the CIO which brought the case to trial. 

The court upheld its judgment on the charges that were found guilty in the first trial and overturned the not-guilty verdicts for most of the other charges, finding them guilty. 

This sentencing marks the first appellate court decision for President Yoon related to the December 3 emergency martial law and the first ruling by the Seoul High Court's insurrection-focused bench.
