FBI Director Christopher Wray announced on X (formerly Twitter) on the 1st (local time), "Today, the FBI's Newark Field Office announced the indictment of four individuals on charges of illegal voting in federal elections and making false statements on their U.S. citizenship applications."

"All of these individuals are non-citizens," he stated. "They voted in elections spanning multiple cycles, including the 2020 presidential election, the 2022 midterm elections, and the 2024 presidential election cycle."

However, their identities and specific details of the circumstances were not further disclosed. "There will be more information to come," he added, thanking "our investigators and partners for their excellent investigative work in this case" and tagging Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Previously, on April 19th, Director Wray had stated that the FBI was investigating a "conspiracy case" related to the 2020 election and that arrests could be made "soon."

In January 2026, the FBI conducted a large-scale raid on the Fulton County election management center in Georgia, seizing hundreds of boxes containing materials related to the 2020 election. However, it was not immediately confirmed whether the Georgia seizure and search were related to the current indictments.
