Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is being treated in critical condition at a West Palm Beach hospital, his spokesperson said.

Giuliani was transported to the emergency room over the weekend and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

On Sunday morning, he experienced severe breathing difficulties and was placed on a ventilator, sources close to the mayor told CNN. His condition is reportedly stable.

Giuliani's spokesperson, Ted Goodman, announced on X, formerly Twitter, Sunday evening: "Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently hospitalized and is in critical but stable condition."

He added, "Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has always battled every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he is fighting now with the same strength. I ask that you please keep America's Mayor Rudy Giuliani in your prayers."

Giuliani's health issues may be related to a chronic lung condition, potentially stemming from his exposure following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Giuliani, who was mayor at the time, was a frequent presence at Ground Zero, where first responders and recovery workers were exposed to toxic dust and debris, Newsmax reported.

Former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Our great Rudy Giuliani, a true warrior and by far the best Mayor of New York City in history, is very sick in the hospital. It is very sad that Radical Left fanatics, the Democrats, are treating him so unfairly. He was right on everything!"

He continued, "They cheated on elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, and did everything possible to destroy our country. And now look at Rudy. It is truly sad!"

Since the election, Giuliani has faced a series of legal challenges, including lawsuits and professional disciplinary actions related to his work on election matters.

Despite these difficulties, Giuliani has maintained a consistent influence in political and media circles.

His son, Andrew Giuliani, is also active in politics and is overseeing the Trump administration's plans for the World Cup happening this summer.
