President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to take active measures in what is being called the 'Map War'.

"We cannot allow elections to be run in an unconstitutional manner for the 'convenience' of state legislatures," he said on his Truth Social account on Sunday. "If we have to vote twice, we should do it."

"We must demand that state legislatures comply with what the Supreme Court requires," he added. "This is much more important than administrative convenience. As a result, the Republican Party will gain over 20 House seats in the upcoming midterm elections!"

Last week, the Federal Supreme Court ruled that "equality before the law" and "minimization of racial considerations" take precedence over the protection of minority voting rights in its recent ruling on racial gerrymandering.

In a 6-3 decision on April 29, the Supreme Court prioritized the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment over the protection of minority voting rights guaranteed by Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Following this ruling, the Department of Justice announced it would enforce the Supreme Court's decision across all other states. This is noteworthy given that there are approximately 40 lawsuits underway nationwide dealing with similar issues.

Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed Florida's new congressional redistricting map into law on Monday. This reconfigures Florida's House delegation for the November elections to 24 Republican seats and 4 Democratic seats, adding four Republican seats.

Tennessee is pursuing changes to redraw a congressional district currently held by a Democrat (District 9, Memphis) into a Republican-leaning area. Governor Bill Lee convened a special session on Monday to address redistricting.

Alabama also held a special session on the 4th. Following a 2023 Supreme Court ruling that invalidated a "Black-dilutive" map, the state plans to revise the current map, which features two Black Democratic House representatives. The existing 5 Republican-to-2 Democratic seat configuration is expected to shift to 6-7 Republican seats and 0-1 Democratic seats.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves also announced that he would convene a special session around the 20th of this month. A "4R-0D" map, which would change the current 3 Republican-to-1 Democratic seat distribution to 4 Republican seats and 0 Democratic seats, is under discussion.
