As Shin Jong-oh, the Seoul High Court judge presiding over the appeal case of Kim Keon-hee, was found deceased near the courthouse early on the 6th, having left a suicide note, a judge appointed by the US Democratic Party has caused a stir in American society by apologizing to the perpetrator of the White House dinner shooting for the poor conditions of his detention.

According to a Fox News report on the 5th (local time), a federal judge in Washington D.C. apologized to Kyle Allen (31), who is accused of attempting to assassinate President Trump and his top aides at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Monday, stating that the suspect's prison environment was too harsh.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia M. Faruqui expressed regret for treating Kyle Allen as a suicide risk and monitoring him, despite the determination from a mental health evaluation that he posed no threat of self-harm.

Faruqui stated that the court's duty is to ensure Allen is held responsibly and fairly, and that he is being "treated differently" from others.

USA Today also reported that Judge Faruqui told Allen, "Whatever you've been through, I apologize for the past week."

In response, Jinny Purifoy, a U.S. Attorney for D.C., sarcastically remarked, "U.S. Magistrate Judge Faruqui believes that a defendant who attempted to assassinate the President is entitled to preferential treatment during detention over all other defendants."

Tony Townes, a public defender in the D.C. Detention Center, stated, "Allen was in solitary confinement due to ongoing psychological evaluations, and the decision to keep him there was made by the facility's medical staff."

However, Faruqui said, "According to Allen's statements during his detention, he had no plans of suicide. Instead, he expected to be attacked at the black-tie party held at the Washington Hilton Hotel."

Meanwhile, according to CNBC, Allen's lawyer informed Judge Faruqui that Allen was being held in a padded cell and was essentially in 24-hour lockdown.

The lawyer also stated that Allen was unable to make phone calls, was prohibited from having court documents in his cell, and was even denied a Bible.

Allen's attorneys also claimed that "Allen was escorted to the shower, stripped every time he entered or exited his cell, and forced to wear a padded vest."

Faruqui described the situation as "completely unreasonable," noting that "even individuals convicted of more serious crimes were detained under less strict conditions than Allen."

Furthermore, he stated, "Allen should not be in solitary confinement," and ordered federal authorities to provide an update by Tuesday morning on where Allen will be housed, adding that decisions to impose stricter limitations within the prison require proper justification.

He continued, "These conditions constitute an excessive restriction of freedom that does not serve a legitimate purpose and deprives the detainee of their dignity."

Allen, from Torrance, California, has been indicted on charges including: attempting to assassinate the President; transporting firearms and ammunition across state lines with the intent to commit a felony; and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

He has not yet entered a plea, and faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
