Axios reported on the 6th (local time) that the White House is close to concluding a one-page Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to end the war with Iran and establish a framework for more detailed nuclear negotiations. The report cited two U.S. officials and two other sources familiar with the matter.

A Pakistani source involved in the peace talks confirmed to Reuters on Wednesday that both sides were on the verge of an agreement.

"It will be finalized soon," the source said, adding, "It's almost done."

This report came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday evening that he would temporarily suspend 'Operation Freedom' to reach a final agreement with Iran.

President Trump stated on Truth Social on Tuesday, "Given the requests from Pakistan and other countries, the tremendous military success we have achieved in our operations against Iran, and the significant progress made towards a full and final agreement with the Iranian delegation, we have decided to temporarily suspend 'Project Freedom' (vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz), while maintaining full sanctions, to see if an agreement can be finalized and signed." 

Axios reported, "The U.S. expects Iran's response on several key issues within the next 48 hours. While nothing has been agreed upon yet, according to sources, this is the closest the two sides have come to an agreement since the outbreak of the war."

The proposed agreement is said to include Iran halting its nuclear enrichment, the U.S. lifting sanctions and releasing billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, and both sides lifting restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios reported that the one-page MOU will contain 14 articles, including provisions for Iran to gradually lift restrictions imposed on vessels passing through the strait and for the U.S. to gradually lift its naval blockade for 30 days.

The duration of Iran's halt in uranium enrichment is also an actively negotiated item. Axios reported that three sources indicated a target of at least 12 years, with one source suggesting 15 years as a likely goal. Iran had initially proposed five years, while the U.S. had requested twenty.

A major reason why this negotiation has garnered attention is Iran's agreement to export highly enriched uranium, which it has previously refused to do. A source told Axios that transferring the material to the U.S. is one of the options being discussed.

Sources indicated that the negotiations could take place in Islamabad or Geneva.

However, the White House anticipates difficulties in reaching an agreement among various factions within the Iranian leadership, given their internal divisions.

President Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday morning, "Assuming Iran agrees to implement the agreed-upon terms, which, of course, may be an overly optimistic assumption, the already legendary 'Epic Fury' operation will be terminated, and thanks to a very effective blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will be open to all countries, including Iran. If Iran does not agree, airstrikes will commence, and unfortunately, their scale and intensity will be far greater than before."

These remarks convey both uncertainty about reaching an agreement with Iran and a message of pressure on Iran's decision.
