As the United States and Iran speed up negotiations towards a ceasefire, U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 6th (local time) that an agreement with Iran is possible before his visit to China next week (14th-15th).

In an interview with PBS NewsHour, a U.S. public broadcaster, President Trump responded to a question about whether an agreement with Iran was imminent by saying, "I think so," and "I think there's a very good chance that we'll reach an agreement."

When asked, "Will it be over (will the negotiations be concluded) before you leave for China next week?", he replied, "It's possible."

However, he added, "But I've felt that way before with them (when negotiating), so we'll have to see how it goes."

President Trump then stated, "If we don't reach an agreement, we'll have to bomb them back to kingdom come." This statement serves as continued pressure, implying renewed military action if an agreement with Iran fails.

Some details of the agreement being negotiated with Iran were also revealed.

When asked if the agreement might include Iran's export of its enriched uranium stockpile to the United States, President Trump said, "Not probably," and "It will be sent to the United States."

He then confirmed, "Yes," when asked if an agreement could also include Iran not operating its underground nuclear facilities.

Regarding whether the agreement would permit low-level enrichment of 3.67% after the current suspension period of Iran's uranium enrichment ends, he drew a line, stating, "No."

President Trump explained, "They will be implementing (nuclear-related measures) for a long time as a confidence-building measure."

He also said, "If an agreement is reached, sanctions against Iran, etc., will be eased."

President Trump stated that Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who had been engaged in direct negotiations with Iran, were unlikely to immediately travel to intermediary countries like Pakistan for further talks.

He added, "We can do this (negotiations with Iran) from here, and perhaps we'll have a signing ceremony somewhere for the final meeting."

Regarding whether he would discuss China's role in the Iran issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Trump reiterated, "If this thing is over, honestly, there's nothing to bring up. I think there's a very good chance it will be over." This suggests that if an agreement with Iran is reached before his trip to China, there would be no need to place China's role in the context of the Iran conflict on the agenda.

At a White House event on the same day, President Trump said, "We are dealing with people who want to make a deal," and that he would see if Iran would agree to a deal satisfactory to the United States.

He also asserted, "We are doing very well with Iran. It is going very smoothly. They want negotiations, they want a deal."

He also confirmed when asked about the U.S. securing Iran's enriched uranium, stating, "We will secure it."

On his social media platform Truth Social the previous day, President Trump announced that significant progress had been made in negotiations with Iran and that "Project Freedom," aimed at assisting merchant ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, would be temporarily suspended.

U.S. online media Axios reported that the U.S. and Iran are close to signing a one-page Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU is understood to include a temporary moratorium on Iran's uranium enrichment, the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Iran and partial release of frozen assets, the gradual easing of Iran's restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and the gradual de-escalation of the U.S. naval blockade of Iran.
