The Indiana Republican primary election, held on the 5th (local time), was closely watched as a test of President Donald Trump's grip on the Republican party, and the results concluded with a decisive victory for Trump.

President Trump actively intervened to oust incumbent lawmakers who had been uncooperative with him, labeling Republican state senators who opposed the redistricting plan last year as "disloyal individuals" and publicly endorsing their challengers.

In District 11, Brian Schmutzler won against incumbent Linda Rogers, and in District 1, Trevor De Vries secured a landslide victory against incumbent Dan Dernulc with 75.1% to 23.3%.

In addition to five victories, in the current District 23, Paula Copenhaver and Spencer Deery, endorsed by Trump, are in an extremely close race with a three-vote difference, leaving the outcome undecided so far.

The only incumbent who survived despite Trump's opposition is Greg Goode in District 38.

This victory, resulting in the defeat of at least 5 to 6 out of 8 incumbents, was significantly influenced by Trump-supporting groups and Governor Mike Braun's camp, who invested over $13.5 million in advertising to pressure the incumbents.

The pro-Trump candidates elected this time are expected to lead discussions for future redistricting in a way that is more advantageous to the Republican party.

Indiana currently has only 2 Democratic seats out of 9 federal House seats, and President Trump has been demanding a map that would allow Republicans to hold all 9 seats.

In fact, the Indiana Republican Party pursued redistricting, but this was frustrated once on December 11, 2025, when moderate Republican senators in the upper house joined forces with Democrats to reject the plan.
