The results of Ohio's primary election, held on the 5th (local time), have finalized the general election matchups for both the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races between the Democratic and Republican parties. This election, in particular, garnered national attention as it coincided with President Donald Trump's influence and the Democratic Party's desire for a comeback.
In the gubernatorial election, Vivek Ramaswamy secured the Republican nomination with an overwhelming 82.5% of the vote. He made national headlines by achieving a historic record of winning in every county in Ohio.
Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur, is known as a strong supporter of Trump, and his victory proved that Trump's support base remains solid within the Ohio Republican Party.
Amy Acton, former Director of the Ohio Department of Health, was confirmed as the Democratic nominee after running unopposed.
In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Republican Senator Jon Husted, who was appointed following the resignation of Vice President JD Vance, advanced to the general election without opposition.

On the Democratic side, Sherrod Brown, a former congressman who lost in 2024, succeeded in his bid for a comeback and secured the nomination.
Despite Trump's strong influence, early voting data showed that approximately 11% more voters chose Democratic ballots than Republican ones, indicating a strong turnout among Democratic supporters, which is noteworthy. However, the overall statewide turnout was very low, at around 22.6%.
With recent defeats of tax increase proposals in some school districts in northeastern Ohio, indicating a conservative taxpayer sentiment, the general election is anticipated to favor the Republican Party.
Ohio's new congressional district map was unanimously approved at the end of October 2025. According to the new map, adjustments to the boundaries of the 1st Congressional District (near Cincinnati) and the 9th Congressional District (near Toledo) are expected to increase the likelihood of Republican candidates winning compared to before.
Currently, Republicans hold 10 out of Ohio's 15 House seats, with Democrats holding 5. Projections suggest that after this year's midterm elections, this balance could shift to 12 Republican seats and 3 Democratic seats.
