U.S. President Donald Trump meets with mixed martial arts fighters in the Oval Office of the White House on the 6th (local time). 2026.5.6
U.S. President Donald Trump on the 6th (local time) reaffirmed Washington's principle that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, claiming that Iran, which is in negotiations, has also agreed to this.
Speaking to reporters at a White House event that day, President Trump said, "Iran must not have nuclear weapons, and it will not," adding, "They have also agreed to this point along with many other things."
According to media reports from CNN, Axios, and others, the United States and Iran are discussing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to end the war.
It is reported that this would include Iran's temporary suspension of uranium enrichment, the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Iran, and the gradual lifting of Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S. maritime blockade of Iran.
In a PBS interview that day, President Trump stated that the agreement would include the export of Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile to the United States and the cessation of Iran's underground nuclear facility operations.
President Trump's remarks are drawing attention as they suggest that Iran has accepted these conditions. However, Iran has not yet issued an official statement in this regard.
President Trump said, "We had a very good conversation with Iran over the last 24 hours," adding, "There is a very good chance we will have a deal."
He also reiterated the possibility of escalating military action against Iran if an agreement is not reached, stating, "We have to get what we have to get. Otherwise, we will have to take much stronger action."
When asked if there was a deadline for negotiations with Iran, President Trump said, "Never a deadline."
However, before making these remarks, President Trump told Fox News anchor Bret Baier in a phone call that he anticipated about a week to finalize the deal, according to Baier.
Baier said, "President Trump showed cautious optimism," and when asked about a specific timeline, President Trump expected about a week to wrap up all the procedures."
In relation to this, Axios reported, citing officials, that the White House expects the negotiations with Iran to conclude by May 15th, when President Trump will have finished his visit to China.
President Trump stated that the U.S. military operations against Iran had inflicted significant damage on Iran's naval, air, and missile forces, saying, "I think we won."
At a Mother's Day event for military mothers that day, President Trump described the Iran conflict as a 'skirmish.' He said, "I would call it a skirmish. That's what it is. It's a skirmish, and we're doing unbelievably well."
That day, President Trump invited mixed martial arts fighters to his Oval Office to promote a mixed martial arts (UFC) event to be held at the White House on his 80th birthday, June 14th.
A bird's-eye view of a UFC octagon installed in the center of the South Lawn of the White House was also unveiled.
Famous UFC fighters including Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, and Justin Gaethje were present. President Trump referred to them as "warriors" and "the best fighters in the world" and said, "I will see all of you here on June 14th."
The Trump administration has organized a large-scale commemorative event to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and one of these events is the White House UFC event. June 14th, the date of the event, is also President Trump's 80th birthday.
