Following President Donald Trump's announcement of a reduction in US forces stationed in Germany, he made remarks suggesting the possibility of relocating the withdrawing troops to neighboring Poland.
According to the political news outlet Politico on the 9th (local time), President Trump told reporters that day regarding the potential redeployment of US troops withdrawing from Germany to Poland, "Poland would want that" and "We have a great relationship with Poland."
He added, "I have a very good relationship with the President of Poland and I like him a lot. So, it's possible."
Poland has openly requested that US troops withdrawing from Germany be sent to their country.
On the 6th, Polish President Andrzej Duda stated that Poland is prepared to host US troops withdrawing from Germany and that he would persuade President Trump directly.
Polish Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated via X (formerly Twitter) that "Our alliance with the United States is the foundation of our security. Poland is ready to accept more US troops to strengthen NATO's eastern flank and better defend Europe."
However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously cautioned against "trying to take away" allied forces, expressing concern that it could be perceived as a competition to attract troops.
Earlier this month, the US Department of Defense announced plans to withdraw approximately 5,000 US troops stationed in Germany within the next six to twelve months.
This action implements the reduction plan that President Trump had proposed following his conflicts with Germany over issues such as the Iran war. President Trump had subsequently warned that the Department of Defense would "reduce far more than 5,000."
