With the indirect peace talks between the United States and Iran virtually broken down, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 11th (local time) that he is considering resuming the "Project Freedom," which aims to facilitate the escape of merchant ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Fox News, President Trump stated in an interview with the outlet that he is considering resuming the halted Project Freedom.
President Trump mentioned the possibility of resuming it on a larger scale than before, but added that a final decision has not been made.
President Trump's remarks appear to be aimed at pressuring Iran into making greater concessions. The president had previously stated that he did not like Iran's proposed peace deal and would not accept it.
President Trump launched Project Freedom on the 4th, mobilizing significant U.S. military assets to assist merchant ships in escaping the Strait of Hormuz. However, he suspended it the following day, the 5th, citing significant progress in peace talks with Iran.
