U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed signing an 'AI Executive Order' that would require communication with the government before the launch of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) models.

According to CBS News and other outlets on the 21st (local time), President Trump was initially expected to sign the executive order on AI and cybersecurity on this day.

However, at a White House event related to other matters that afternoon, he announced that he was postponing the signing because he was not satisfied with the contents of the executive order, stating that he wants the United States to maintain its AI competitiveness.

When asked by reporters about the reason for postponing the executive order signing, President Trump replied, "I postponed it because I didn't like certain aspects."

He added, "As you know, we are ahead of China and ahead of all countries. I don't want to do anything that hinders that lead."

He emphasized that AI brings "tremendous benefits" and is creating many jobs in the United States. He also said, "I thought it (the executive order) could be a hindrance, and I want to make sure that it doesn't become one."

However, President Trump did not clearly specify which aspects of the executive order he felt could hinder the development of U.S. AI competitiveness.

According to sources cited by CBS, the draft executive order called for a voluntary system for AI developers to collaborate with the federal government when launching AI models, which included providing access to selected technologies before their public release.

This would involve companies providing their new AI models to the government 90 days before their public release and granting prior access to companies in critical infrastructure sectors such as banks, according to Reuters.
