According to U.S. political news outlets Axios and CBS News, President Trump is seriously considering new airstrikes against Iran if Tehran does not accept the "final offer" sent by the U.S. on the 20th in the coming days.

Axios reported that President Trump held a high-level national security team meeting on the morning of the 22nd to receive reports on negotiation progress and scenarios for failed talks, attended by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles regarding the war with Iran.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on a trip to Europe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine did not attend the meeting as he was at the Naval Academy graduation ceremony.

Two anonymous sources interviewed by Axios said President Trump has become increasingly frustrated with the negotiations with Iran in recent days.

While President Trump focused on diplomatic efforts during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the 19th, the sources said his stance shifted, and by the night of the 21st, he was leaning toward ordering airstrikes.

An insider close to the president suggested the possibility of a final "decisive" large-scale military operation that could allow President Trump to declare victory and end the war.

The U.S. reportedly delivered a "final offer" to Iran on the 20th and warned that military action would resume if Iran did not accept it.

President Trump said on the 22nd, "Iran is desperate for a deal," and that he would monitor the situation.

However, there are no definitive signs that President Trump has decided to resume the war.

The following Monday, May 25th, is Memorial Day, a three-day holiday weekend from the 23rd to the 25th, but many U.S. government officials are known to have canceled their personal holiday plans.

President Trump had originally planned to spend the holiday weekend at his golf course in New Jersey after a speech in New York on the evening of the 22nd, but he decided to return to the White House.

He stated on the social media platform "Truth Social" that he would be unable to attend the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and his fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, in the Bahamas this weekend due to "circumstances involving the government and my love for the United States." He added, "I feel it is important to remain in Washington D.C. at the White House during this important time."

In preparation for a potential military conflict, government officials in defense and intelligence sectors have also canceled their personal holiday plans.

As part of efforts to reduce U.S. troop presence abroad in preparation for Iranian retaliation, with some Middle East-based troops rotating out, they have begun updating overseas deployment rosters.

The U.S. and Iran began an interim ceasefire on April 8th and have refrained from mutual attacks to allow time for indirect talks toward an agreement.

White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly told CBS News in an interview that President Trump's firm position is that Iran will never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons or maintain stockpiles of enriched uranium, stating, "The President always keeps all options on the table, and it is the Pentagon's mission to be prepared to execute any decision the commander-in-chief may make."

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Army Chief of Staff, General Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran on the 22nd to bridge the gap in the final stages and prevent the resumption of war, and a Qatari delegation also joined to assist in mediation.

General Munir is scheduled to meet with Major General Ahmad Vahidi, a key figure in Iran's decision-making process and commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), on the 23rd.

However, a U.S. official briefed on diplomatic efforts described the negotiations as "painful," stating that the situation of drafts being exchanged daily continues without significant progress.

Iran also remains unwavering.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on the 22nd that talks are ongoing but an agreement is not imminent.

The semi-official Tasnim News Agency, linked to the IRGC, reported, citing sources close to the negotiating team, that "dialogue on contentious issues is still underway, and a final outcome has not yet been reached."

These sources claimed that the current focus is solely on "ending the war," and other issues will not be negotiated until this is achieved.

Axios, citing sources involved in negotiations with Iran, analyzed that while there is still a chance for a breakthrough in the next 24 hours, President Trump is leaning toward proceeding with military operations unless something unexpected occurs in the talks.
