Amid intense behind-the-scenes negotiations for a peace treaty between the United States and Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump is set to hold a cabinet meeting at Camp David, the presidential retreat.

The New York Post reported on the 26th (local time) that "as negotiations with Iran enter a decisive and urgent phase, President Trump is scheduled to unusually visit Camp David on Wednesday (27th) to preside over a cabinet meeting."

Camp David is located deep in the mountains of Maryland, about 100 km from the White House in Washington D.C. Guarded by the U.S. Marines, it is a suitable location for sensitive political and diplomatic discussions away from public scrutiny.

While U.S. presidents often leave the White House on weekends to combine rest and work there, it has also been the site of historically significant events in U.S. foreign policy.

Notably, in 1978, then-U.S. President Jimmy Carter invited the leaders of Israel and Egypt, and an agreement was reached to sign a Middle East peace treaty. This agreement later became known as the 'Camp David Accords.'

President Trump also held a meeting with top national security advisors and military generals at Camp David on June 8 last year, where he was briefed on military options against Iran. Thirteen days later, on June 21 of the same month, he launched an operation to strike three Iranian nuclear facilities.

This cabinet meeting will be the 12th held since the launch of President Trump's second term in office, and the New York Post reports that the discussion is expected to focus primarily on the issue of Iran.

Although there was an atmosphere last weekend suggesting an imminent resolution to the peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, the situation is currently marked by a tense standoff, with Iran reacting strongly after the U.S. conducted an airstrike on targets in southern Iran the previous day, citing self-defense.

The White House told the New York Post, "We plan to discuss the administration's recent achievements, including economic and small business performance, key activities of the task force to eradicate fraud, and the current state of foreign policy."

However, the location of this cabinet meeting may be changed due to bad weather. The New York Post reported, "President Trump usually travels to Camp David by helicopter, but recent heavy rainfall in the Washington D.C. area could lead to cancellation."
