The White House on the 27th (local time) strongly denied a draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) on ending hostilities between the two countries, as reported by Iranian state television, calling it "fabricated."

In a post on its X (formerly Twitter) account named 'Rapid Response 47', the White House stated, "This report by media controlled by Iran is not true, and the MOU they released is completely fabricated."

It added, "No one should believe what Iran's state television broadcasts," emphasizing that "facts matter."

Iranian state television reported earlier that it had obtained an unofficial draft of the MOU currently being discussed by the two countries, which included provisions for the United States to withdraw its forces stationed around Iran and lift the maritime blockade on Iran.

In return, Iran reportedly promised to restore the number of ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, excluding warships, to pre-war levels within one month of the MOU's signing, with the condition that Iran would be responsible for designating and managing shipping routes, and Oman would cooperate in this effort, the broadcaster reported.

The United States and Iran have hinted at getting closer to an agreement on an MOU to end hostilities since the past weekend, but no agreement has been announced yet.

There are many speculations that the two sides are engaged in a war of nerves over key issues demanded by U.S. President Donald Trump, such as resolving Iran's nuclear program, the issue of highly enriched uranium processing, and the complete freedom of passage for civilian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House's strong denial of the Iranian state television report today is interpreted as a sign that this war of nerves remains tense.
