Candidate Hwang Kyo-ahn of the Freedom and Innovation Party, voting with his wife, Choi Ji-young
Hwang Kyo-ahn, a candidate for the Freedom and Innovation Party in the Pyeongtaek-eul constituency by-election in Gyeonggi Province, cast his vote on the election day, the 3rd, at 7:30 AM. He visited the polling station set up at Hyeonhwa High School in Anjung-eup with his wife, Choi Ji-young.
Candidate Hwang stated, "Today is a victory for democracy. I will do my best until the very end."
He added, "It is regrettable that unification was not achieved, but we could not choose a path of dying together while united. I consistently spoke of unification that leads to victory. If unification had been achieved with me as the unifier, it would have been a sure win, but he kept insisting on unification with him. That would have been a sure loss," he explained.
"Because if unification is with me, all conservative voters will unite, but if it's with him, they will all scatter. This is because former President Park Geun-hye's supporters would leave entirely," he said, urging, "Citizens of Pyeongtaek, the citizens of Korea, please go to the polling stations and cast your precious vote."
The left-wing parties had voted in advance earlier.
