This is the opening sentence of an article published by American Greatness on Sunday, the 7th, by former Assistant Secretary of Energy Bart Marcois.
In the article, Marcois urged, "The U.S. government must react strongly to this."
He directly criticized that while Washington was preoccupied elsewhere, South Korea had been taken over by a hard-left communist party more interested in pleasing Pyongyang and Beijing than Washington.
The article mentioned that Lee Jae-myung was under criminal investigation for allegedly secretly sending over $8 million to North Korea, and also noted that a constitutional amendment to abolish the single-term presidency and allow indefinite re-election is being considered.
Mos Tahn, a distinguished law professor and expert in international law and human rights, told the author, "South Korean elections are as corrupt as Venezuelan elections," and added, "We are dealing not with a government but with an anti-American criminal organization."
According to the article, the Lee Jae-myung administration still wants to be treated as an ally of the United States, disguised as a "democratization" movement, and expects trade privileges, but is concerned that Ambassador Tahn's criticism will damage their position as a trade and treaty ally.
Marcois pointed out that the Lee Jae-myung administration "appears to be still delaying investments, seemingly to avoid U.S. tariffs as much as possible," and suggested, "Perhaps South Korea believes it can hold out until President Trump is distracted or leaves office."
He argued, "Government and congressional policymakers must realize that South Korea is no longer a country dominated by its allies," and stated, "Ambassador Mos Tahn is exposing their hypocrisy before the South Korean government completely sheds its mask."
Marcois described preventing Ambassador Tahn's return to the U.S. as a "panicked reaction to the discovery of shameful acts" and urged, "The U.S. government must take strong action against South Korea's hostile actions towards American interests."
Introducing the article on his YouTube channel, "A Minute with Bart," he asked, "What can you say if an American treaty ally prevents a former U.S. ambassador from leaving the country and doesn't allow him to go home?"
In the video, Marcois noted that South Korea's "new hard-left government" has committed "several absurd anti-American acts in the past few months," stating, "They are attacking American companies, and they have raided a U.S. Air Force base on false pretenses. Now they are detaining an American ambassador in their country and preventing him from leaving."
He asserted that the South Korean government is "retaliating" by imposing an exit ban on Ambassador Tahn because Ambassador Tahn has taken a publicly critical stance on the current South Korean regime's far-left policies.
Marcois emphasized, "The U.S. government must secure the release of Ambassador Mos Tahn and pressure them to fulfill the promises they made."
Marcois, a former diplomat, served as Assistant Secretary of Energy and is currently the president of MPIC, a Washington-based company that supports the return of manufacturing to the United States. He was also the person who introduced Pastor Son Hyun-bo's second son, Son Chan-sung, to House Speaker Mike Johnson at the "Summit to End Persecution of Christians" hosted by CPAC at the Kennedy Center on October 30th last year, facilitating their meeting.
He led the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) during Trump's first administration and has been involved in all of President Trump's election campaigns since 2016.
