  • Bill Proposed: 'Election Invalidated if Voting Rights Blocked Due to Election Commission's Fault'

국민의힘, 투표용지 부족 사태 관련 토론회 개최On the 8th, at a debate held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building by the People Power Party's Policy Committee and Representative Na Kyung-won, titled "June 3rd Ballot Shortage and Flawed Election Incident: Citizens Urge Rerun Elections and Special Counsel! - Legal Challenges for Amending Election Law and Dismantling the Incompetent and Corrupt National Election Commission," Representative Na is giving opening remarks. People Power Party Representative Na Kyung-won stated on the 12th, in relation to the ballot shortage incident during the June 3rd local elections, "If I had been elected Mayor Oh Se-hoon, I would have immediately gone to the Jamsil Olympic Park site and declared a rerun election."

Speaking at a press conference at the National Assembly, Representative Na said, "Flaws and irregularities continue to be revealed. For the June 3rd local elections, constituencies with problems must have rerun elections."

He stated, "The fact that the number of people unable to vote is not large enough to change the outcome does not negate the constitutional illegality of fundamentally blocking the voting rights of sovereign citizens." He added, "The validity of an election lies in the constitutional legitimacy of the procedures, not solely in the difference in votes obtained."

He continued, "The current Public Official Election Act only recognizes an election as invalid 'when it is recognized to have affected the election results,' even if election regulations are violated. It is a severe contradiction that the National Election Commission makes a mistake, and then places the burden of subsequent proof on voters who couldn't even cast their ballots," he argued.

Consequently, Representative Na announced that he has proposed an amendment to the Public Official Election Act, which would allow for the complete or partial invalidation of an election, regardless of the results, if voting rights are blocked due to the National Election Commission's attributable reasons.

He also demanded ▲ an extension of the election petition period to "within 30 days from the date of the winner's determination" ▲ the dismantling of the National Election Commission and the establishment of a new governance structure ▲ the delegation of election tasks such as voting and counting to other agencies ▲ the establishment of principles for same-day voting and on-site manual counting ▲ the abolition of advance voting outside the jurisdiction and the implementation of a single day of advance voting within the jurisdiction immediately before the main election.

자유민주주의를 추구하는 국회의원이라면 당연히 이렇게 주장해야 한다. 그렇지 못한 국힘당 의원은 반역독재세력의 밀정이든지 끄나풀로 의심된다.
