U.S. President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran to end the war and denuclearize is scheduled to be signed on the 14th (U.S. local time).
In a post on his social media service (SNS) Truth Social on the 13th, President Trump stated, "The Strait of Hormuz will be open to everyone immediately after signing," adding to his announcement.
President Trump criticized the previous nuclear deal with Iran (JCPOA), which was agreed upon in 2015 during the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama and invalidated during his first term, calling it "an easy, beautiful, and smooth path to nuclear weapons." He then asserted, "The agreement I will make with Iran is the exact opposite," claiming it will be "A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON" for Iran.
He emphasized that Iran would no longer seek nuclear weapons, nor possess them through purchase, development, or any form of procurement, stressing that this agreement would secure Iran's commitment to denuclearization.
He further claimed, "Our relationship with Iran will be very different and much better than the relationships forged by previous (U.S.) administrations."
President Trump also added, "Unlike the hundreds of billions of dollars, including $1.7 billion in cash paid by the Obama administration to Iran, there will be no money exchanged this time."
It is understood that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) currently reached provisionally by both countries involves the release of frozen funds and sanctions in return for Iran fulfilling its commitments related to denuclearization. Therefore, President Trump's statement is interpreted as meaning that there will be no economic compensation paid to Iran upon the signing of the MOU.
President Trump also stated, "At the appropriate time when all situations are stabilized, we will go in and, thanks to our great B-2 bombers and their excellent pilots (who participated in the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities by the U.S. military last year), secure the 'nuclear dust' (highly enriched uranium) buried deep within the strong granite mountains, and dilute and destroy it either in Iran or the United States."
In addition, President Trump expressed his anticipation to "cooperate with Iran and throughout the Middle East" and hoped that "this process (the process of implementing the agreement with Iran) will proceed quickly, easily, and smoothly." He then warned, "If not, we have a last resort that we never hope to use again," suggesting that if the implementation of the agreement does not go well, the option of attacking Iran could be put back on the table.
In this post, President Trump did not disclose specific details such as the exact location of the event for signing the agreement with Iran.
According to Reuters, a Western source stated on the 12th that U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf might meet to sign the agreement, with Geneva, Switzerland, being the most likely location.
However, Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, said in an interview program on Iranian state TV on the 12th, "This agreement will be signed and announced as soon as the final stage of negotiations is completed," adding, "The signing will be done digitally and remotely."
Furthermore, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on the 13th, "We need to watch the timing of the MOU signing a bit more," and stated that the signing would not take place on the 14th.
