U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 14th (local time) via his personal social media (SNS) that a peace agreement with Iran has been reached.
President Trump posted on Truth Social around 5:30 PM that day, stating, "The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has now been finalized."
This brings the Iran war to a conclusion with an American victory after 106 days since its commencement on February 28.
President Trump announced, "I fully approve the unrestricted opening of the Strait of Hormuz and simultaneously approve the immediate lifting of the U.S. Navy's maritime blockade (against Iran)."
He added, "Let the world's ships start their engines and let the oil flow."
Following this, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced, "We will immediately and permanently cease hostilities on all fronts starting tonight."
The two countries are scheduled to sign a peace memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Switzerland on the 19th.
Meanwhile, the previous day, President Trump posted a photo on SNS of himself walking with North Korea's Kim Jong Un in Singapore in June 2018. Given his consistent style of hinting at future actions, it was speculated that he would now begin to focus on North Korea.
