A post by John R. Mills, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of State, has drawn attention as it suggests he is currently visiting South Korea.
On the 18th (local time), Deputy Assistant Secretary Mills posted two photos on X (formerly Twitter) of a Korean Air aircraft, which appear to have been taken at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2. These photos are presumed to have been taken on the afternoon of June 18th, Korea Standard Time.
This comes at a time when Morse Tan, former Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice, who led an international election observation mission to South Korea with Mills last year, has been placed under an exit ban by the South Korean government.
It has not been immediately confirmed whether the State Department dispatched Deputy Assistant Secretary Mills to address the situation regarding former Ambassador Tan, or if he had already visited South Korea in secret to take action and was on his way back to the United States.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Mills, who visited South Korea as a member of an international election observation mission during the June 3 early presidential election in 2025, previously gained attention during a press conference in Washington D.C. last year for claiming that the election was fraudulent and that the Chinese Communist Party was behind it.
He identified Wang Huning, then fourth in the hierarchy of the Chinese Communist Party, as the head of an international election fraud cartel.
He currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy at the State Department.
