U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized lawmakers who oppose abolishing the 60-vote threshold for the Senate filibuster, which is necessary to pass major legislation, on the 18th (local time).

President Trump has repeatedly mentioned reforming Senate rules to advance key legislative priorities, including the "Save America Act," a bill mandating voter ID.

He wrote on Truth Social, "Anyone who doesn't want to abolish the filibuster is a fool, a very stupid fool! The Democrats will abolish the filibuster within minutes of taking office and will be hell-bent on destroying our country with two radical left states, four Democrat senators, many House members, 21 Supreme Court justices (not the unlucky 13!), an unbeatable Electoral College vote (this is the key to victory!), an overwhelming popular vote, etc."

President Trump added, "Republicans will never win another election. Sadly, I will be the last Republican president. Senator John Thune and Republican senators should not allow this 'massacre' to happen. They, and all Republicans who have merely stood by, will be on the wrong side of history. It is not the Republican Party that is at risk, but our country. Abolish the filibuster and pass the 'Save America Act' immediately."

Senate leadership, particularly Senate Majority Whip John Thune, has strongly opposed not only filibuster reform but also President Trump's suggestion to dismiss the Senate parliamentarian and replace them with someone who can bypass the filibuster through a reconciliation process to pass more items.

Despite some of Trump's allies and conservative activists criticizing Governor Thune, Senate Republicans have largely supported their leader, Newsmax reported.

The Wall Street Journal reported that many Republican senators view Thune's stance as reflecting the realities of the Senate rather than an opposition to President Trump's policies.

Some senators have defended him as a candid leader to the White House regarding which bills can and cannot pass Congress.

Nevertheless, the President did not call for Thune's dismissal, recognizing that such a move could provoke widespread backlash from Republican senators who are essential to advancing the administration's policies, Newsmax added.
