5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Kumamoto, Japan… Tremors Felt in Parts of Gyeongnam and Jeonnam

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that a 5.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, at approximately 10:19 p.m. on the 29th, which may have been felt in some parts of Korea.


According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the earthquake, which occurred in the waters 53 km south-southwest of Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, resulted in an instrumental seismic intensity of 2 in Namhae-gun and Hadong-gun in South Gyeongsang Province, as well as in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.


An instrumental seismic intensity of 2 refers to a level where the tremor is "felt only by a few people in quiet conditions or on the upper floors of buildings."
