Photo of an 'Autopen' displayed instead of President Biden's face on the White House 'Presidential Walk of Fame'. White House X capture.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump created a commemorative space in the White House featuring portraits of past presidents side-by-side, but instead of a portrait of former President Joe Biden, who preceded him, a photo of an 'Autopen' (automatic signature device) was displayed.
The White House posted two photos on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on the 24th (local time).
One showed three framed pictures hanging on a wall. In the center, between two frames for Presidents Trump (45th and 47th) and Trump, was a photo of an Autopen signing his name instead of a portrait of former President Biden, the 46th president.
Another post featured a photo of President Trump looking at this picture.
These photos were hung on the newly created 'Presidential Walk of Fame' in the colonnade of the West Wing, the administrative building of the White House where the Oval Office is located.
The decision to place a photo of the Autopen instead of former President Biden's portrait is interpreted as an attempt to highlight and overtly mock and criticize Biden, by emphasizing the allegations of cognitive decline during his presidency that President Trump has consistently raised.
Earlier in June, President Trump signed an executive order directing a thorough investigation into suspicions that Biden's aides had exploited his cognitive decline to implement several major policies secretly using the Autopen in his name.
However, former President Biden countered at the time, stating, "To be clear, the decisions on pardons, executive orders, and legislation during my presidency were made by me."
Since taking office for his second term, President Trump has been pursuing renovations of the White House, not only by creating the Presidential Walk of Fame but also by replacing the lawn in the Rose Garden with stone, such as marble, to create a banquet area.
President Trump has hosted dinners for guests in the newly created Rose Garden, and this occasion, with cabinet members and senior White House officials in attendance, would be their first opportunity to view the Presidential Walk of Fame, CNN reported, citing a White House official.
