President Lee Jae-myung announced on the 26th that a comprehensive roadmap for inclusion in the MSCI developed markets will be released within the year.
In a Facebook post following the 'Korea Investment Summit' held at the New York Stock Exchange on the 25th (local time), President Lee stated, "We will end the 'Korea Discount' and usher in an era of the 'Korea Premium'."
President Lee emphasized, "We will make every effort to ensure that global investors investing in our capital markets do not worry about the 'Korea Discount' and can enjoy the 'Korea Premium,' including the announcement of a comprehensive roadmap for inclusion in the MSCI developed countries index within the year."
President Lee said, "At the New York Stock Exchange, which has been the center of global capital markets amidst numerous crises, we declared that the Korean economy has completed its preparations for a renewed leap into the global market."
He added, "Our KOSPI is continuously setting new records, building on the high hopes and expectations for a new nation. Consumer sentiment is recovering, and various economic indicators are also turning upwards."
President Lee stated, "Fostering the capital market as a core platform for economic growth is a firm policy direction of our government. The most important principle in this process is to create a predictable capital market where global investors can trust and invest."
He further emphasized, "Just as the New York Stock Exchange has enhanced investor convenience and strengthened consumer protection, we will focus our policy capabilities on improving accessibility for global investors and enhancing the credibility of our capital markets."
Earlier at the Investment Summit event at the New York Stock Exchange, President Lee had expressed, "It is very regrettable that the South Korean market has not yet been included in the MSCI index. I understand this is due to our insufficient preparations, with the offshore foreign exchange market being a key issue. We will resolve that issue quickly." Yonhap News
