At a forum held in the heart of Washington, USA, themed 'Crisis of Korean Democracy,' claims were made that the gradual patterns observed when communist forces seize a nation are being replicated in Korea.

Bart Marcois, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy and a seasoned diplomat from the U.S. State Department, stated at a public forum held at the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC) in Washington on the morning of the 25th (local time, 11 PM KST on the 25th), "We must understand the 'pattern' that emerges when communism or Marxism takes over a nation," lamenting the situation.

Previously, about a week before the ROK-US bilateral talks last month, former Deputy Assistant Secretary Marcois co-authored an op-ed with Carla Sands, Vice Chair of Energy and Environmental Affairs at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), published in the conservative U.S. media outlet The Daily Caller. The core message was a sharp critique stating that "playing both sides between the US and China is the most dangerous game to play with the Korean people," urging the Lee Jae-myung administration to make a clear choice in consideration of national interest and its citizens.

In his presentation at the forum, he introduced himself by saying, "Although I am not an expert on Korea, I have extensively studied communism for a long time and am well-acquainted with it. I have also fought against the Cold War and Marxism," and persuasively explained the gradually unfolding situation in Korea by drawing parallels with his research findings.

According to the presentation, the common characteristics and patterns observed in countries undergoing communization include: fraudulent elections; suppression of churches, opposition parties, and the media; forcing media outlets to change their reporting, as seen in the last 48 hours; corruption of prosecutors and appointment of corrupt prosecutors; establishment of special courts and dismissal of judges; imprisonment of opposition party leaders; and attempts to shut down opposition parties.

Marcois pointed out that "this pattern, first introduced by Lenin, is followed with almost no exceptions," emphasizing that "it is hard to count how many times this pattern has been repeated since I wrote about the 100 million victims of communism in the last 100 years five to six years ago."

He added, "As George Orwell vividly depicted in his book 'Animal Farm,' one can see the sheep unconsciously repeating slogans and ideas to eliminate independent thought, and attempts to incite and foster social division."

He then sharply criticized specific cases in Korea. "Someone who has legitimately won an election, when someone questions the results, would allow transparent investigations or invite those who question, foreign media, international observers, and international experts to say, 'Did we win or lose?' and then ask people to understand by saying, 'Isn't the result correct?' and receive affirmation that it is correct," he explained. "However, forces that have committed electoral fraud not only investigate citizens who greet those questioning the election at the airport but also arrest former presidents, and even tried to do so to former Prime Minister Hwang," he critically pointed out Korea's painful reality.

Furthermore, he frankly expressed his discomfort with the situation in Korea: "When one person (President Yoon) is in prison and is denied medication and treatment, and the international community remains silent, my conscience cannot help but feel 'moral outrage.'"

Marcois also advised the Korean people to unite to endure the pain of their harsh reality. He criticized the suppression of churches in Korea by stating, "Karl Marx, who showed genius in organizational structure even before Lenin, forced communists to cease their worship of God, stating that for communists, the state is God." He then advised, "In addition, Leninist tactics involve planting agitators within to incite division and make people fight each other. Therefore, one must continuously strive to unite without being caught up in these situations."

"One cannot win alone... We must fight communism by sharing information through global networks"

At the forum, Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the new Saejok Freedom and Innovation Party, delivered a keynote speech detailing the overall situation of the crisis in Korean democracy. At the beginning of his speech, Hwang emphatically declared that the impeachment process against President Yoon Suk-yeol was clearly illegal. Having a background as a public security prosecutor and serving as Minister of Justice, he directly stated, "The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, which has no investigative authority, conducted the investigation, the court, which lacks arrest warrant authority, issued the warrants, and the Democratic Party, which secured a vast majority through fraudulent elections, illegally impeached President Yoon." He added, "Following President Yoon's impeachment, fraudulent elections were also perpetrated in the early presidential election on May 3rd, in which Lee Jae-myung was elected."

He further accused, "Members of the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Task Force, who desperately tried to prevent fraudulent elections, are being investigated by the police instead of being rewarded. Although I formed the new Saejok Freedom and Innovation Party to overcome this situation, my party headquarters was raided just two days after its formation. There is no institution in South Korea that controls the National Election Commission," he reported to the international community.

He stated, "Since the May 3rd presidential election, Korea's legislative and executive branches have already been seized by anti-state forces, and even the judiciary is on the verge of being completely controlled." He pointed out, "The Democratic Party intends to double the number of Supreme Court justices to appoint individuals favorable to them, which is an attempt to dismantle the separation of powers, a fundamental principle of liberal democracy."

Additionally, he urged, "As South Korea is rapidly heading towards a one-party dictatorship, with the dismantling of the prosecution service and the suppression of churches, we must unite and fight, but we must unite by removing the cancerous elements." He strongly called for action, stating, "For example, we cannot ally with politicians who call themselves conservative but agree with the illegal impeachment of President Yoon. President Yoon must be immediately released, and this is in accordance with the spirit of the law."

Hwang advised, "We must respond by sharing information through global networks. We must fight against communism by sharing resources such as the right-wing camp, security, military strength, and personnel." He emphasized, "Because we cannot win alone. Information about the fraudulent election cartel must also be shared, and the world must unite and fight." He specifically stated, "The reason Korea is facing a crisis of communization is not something that happened overnight. Over the past 50 years, communist forces have infiltrated various sectors, including the legislative, judicial, and executive branches, and the media, steadily building their power. He appealed, "We must act rather than worry. Many young people and patriotic citizens in Korea are resisting the Lee Jae-myung regime. They are fighting with their lives, accepting legal penalties. We ask for the solidarity and support of the free democratic forces in the United States and around the world."

Finally, he stated, "Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party are thorough anti-US and pro-China forces." He added, "The will of the Lee Jae-myung administration is not the same as the will of the general public. Even if the Lee Jae-myung administration mentions the withdrawal of US Forces Korea or the return of wartime operational control, the will of the general public is clearly different." Hwang concluded by saying, "We desperately need prayer. I and Korean Christians facing oppression are praying daily for God's grace and mercy. I ask Christians in America to remember Korea and pray."

Dr. Grant Newsham, who visited Korea as a member of the Korean election fraud monitoring group around the early presidential election in June, expressed his surprise: "This museum, where the seminar is being held, is a place that reminds us of the damage caused by communists or radicalists inspired by communism when they seize society with their efforts to create utopias. I am witnessing communism (a specter) that collapsed in 1989 and was thought to be gone forever, now attempting to take over Korea."

He continued, "Personally, having known Korea for perhaps 45 years, I was aware of anti-US or pro-North Korean elements, but I did not realize how influential they were. Since seriously examining Korea from 2020, I have been truly surprised to observe Korean radicals systematically working to turn Korea into a one-party dictatorship, colluding with China and North Korea, and ultimately attempting to sever the ROK-US alliance. The evidence for this is clear."

He also cautioned, "Some argue that the ROK-US alliance is so strong that severing it is impossible. However, we must pay attention to the case of Venezuela, a strong US ally in South America, a pro-US and democratic nation, which turned into a dictatorship and became an enemy of America."

Paul Kim, CEO of GroundC, listed remarks made by former U.S. Representative Newt Gingrich on Fox News about Korea becoming a pro-China socialist dictatorship, the visit of the late Charlie Kirk, president of Turning Point USA, to Korea to support the oppressed, President Donald Trump's social media post saying 'Purge or Revolution,' the search and investigation of pastors Billy Kim and Lee Young-hoon (senior pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church), and the government's targeting of citizens who resist the Korean government's immoral actions and crimes. Kim stated, "I want to share important information about Korea's situation here."

Kim pointed out, "The Lee Jae-myung administration is oppressing and hunting innocent citizens who voice anti-government sentiments, and is also persecuting religion. This is clear evidence of communization, as Ambassador Morse Tan mentioned." He further added, "This is an international issue, and if Korea falls into the hands of communists, there will be a domino effect in East Asia. There is also the case of the President of Taiwan, who is facing impeachment, similar to President Yoon."

"Korea is the frontline and shield of freedom... If the US acts now, it can prevent communization"

Attorney Park, the Korean representative of KCPAC (Korea Conservative Political Action Conference), the official Korean partner of the American Conservative Union (ACU) and the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), and who has been actively working to uncover the truth about fraudulent elections, sharply criticized in her speech, delivered in English: "Countries that follow an anti-US path are increasingly impoverished, crime rates rise, and the country descends into a criminal state. The reason such regimes maintain power is simply due to fraudulent elections." Next, Geoff Ramsey, a researcher at the Atlantic Council, gave a lecture on the decline of Venezuela. He is considered an expert who has extensively researched Venezuela for over a decade.

Ramsey presented his research findings, stating, "I have studied the process by which one of the most stable democracies in South America has transformed into the authoritarian regime we witness today. It is a valuable case study that teaches us how fragile the foundations of a democratic government can become if they are not protected and upheld."

He detailed the decline of Venezuela's fortunes with the rise of Chavez, explaining: the failure to resolve structural problems in the center-left and right-wing two-party system; the path to power opened for Hugo Chavez amidst widespread public frustration; Chavez's success in winning public favor with promises of large-scale anti-establishment change after leading a failed coup attempt; the massive purge of opponents after his temporary ousting and return in a 2002 coup; the manipulation of the Supreme Court and attacks on independent media, followed by the creation of an environment favorable to the ruling party through the use of national resources like oil.

He also meticulously diagnosed the causes of widespread fraudulent election suspicions raised in the 2018 and last year's presidential elections, following Chavez's successor Nicolás Maduro's economic policy failures leading to rampant inflation and shortages, the brutal crackdown on student protests in 2014, the opposition winning a majority in 2015, and the subsequent invalidation of election results through the already controlled Supreme Court, culminating in the legislature's capture and the erosion of the separation of powers.

Ramsey suggested, "What begins with promises of realizing radical democracy inevitably solidifies into authoritarianism." He proposed, "President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio should not only focus on promoting democracy but also consider whether it aligns with new approaches and priorities such as U.S. security, immigration, and energy interests."

He further advised, "The decline of democracy does not happen overnight; it gradually deteriorates through inequality and disillusionment, and through leaders who claim to solely represent the will of the people. If this can happen in Venezuela, a long-time U.S. ally and a healthy liberal democracy, it can happen anywhere. We must all protect democracy and learn from Venezuela's experience."

Morse Tan: "A small prevention is better than a larger cure... We must prevent conflict in Taiwan and the Korean Peninsula before gunfire erupts"

Dr. Morse H. Tan (Korean name: Dan Hyeon-myeong), who led the Korean presidential election fraud monitoring team, left a strong impression as a foreign policy, national security, and justice expert with an apt analogy in his final speech. As a former Ambassador-at-Large for International Criminal Justice during the first Trump administration, he used the metaphor of "two trains running on two sets of tracks" to describe the dynamics of global affairs.

Former Ambassador Tan stated, "The first train is led by the Chinese Communist Party, followed by Russia, Venezuela, Iran, and perhaps Brazil and North Korea, and it is driving the world towards a cliff. The other train is led by the United States, leading to privileged freedom, God-given liberties, a free market, a free society, a constitutional republic, prosperity, and peace, with many free nations following this train." He then drew attention by saying, "Consider this point," and expressed strong concern that "Korea, which was following the U.S. train, is at risk of derailing and switching to tracks heading towards a precipice."

Quoting the proverb, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," Tan warned, "It is far better to find a solution to Korea's crisis before gunfire erupts in Taiwan and on the Korean Peninsula, and to prevent Korea from heading towards the cliff by not switching to the 'devil's train' that the Chinese Communist Party is paving, and to maintain the ROK-US alliance."

He continued, "Based on many objective measures, I believe Korea is the United States' best ally, and I have heard from many Koreans that they would rather become the 51st state of the US than become a communist dictatorship. If this 'linchpin ally' collapses, it would be like pulling the pin on a grenade in the most strategically important region for the US, causing an explosion that would shake the world. Therefore, our leaders must prevent this situation from escalating into a third world war."

He also urged, "Korea is like an image that projects and reflects the goodness and greatness of the United States. Can we just stand by and watch Korea crumble? I hope that U.S. citizens and leaders will listen to the voices of our closest allies." He emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating, "Even if it's not purely for what is right and for human rights, freedom, and democracy, at least for the interests of Americans and the geopolitical and strategic interests of the United States, the U.S. must intervene in the situation in Korea."
