Cambodian police arrest a criminal organization involved in voice phishing and other crimes in the capital, Phnom Penh, in July. EPA Yonhap News.
It has been alleged that one of the suspects who tortured and killed a Korean university student in Cambodia was involved in the 'Gangnam Academy District Drug Drink Incident' that occurred two years ago.
According to Yonhap News's comprehensive reporting on the 12th, 'Cheonma', a vigilante group that has been tracking crimes against Koreans in Cambodia, has identified Chinese national Li (34) as the main perpetrator who murdered Korean university student Park (20s) in the Bokor Mountain area of Kampot Province, Cambodia, in August.
Cheonma claims that Li has a prior record for drug offenses and served as the head of distribution in the drug drink incident that occurred in the academy district of Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in April 2023.
Cheonma added that Li filmed videos of himself forcing Park to take drugs and torturing him.
Cambodian prosecutors arrested and indicted three Chinese nationals in their 30s and 40s on charges of murder and fraud on the 10th local time, but Li has reportedly not yet been apprehended.
Cheonma stated that they shared this information with the police to cooperate with the investigation.
A representative from the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency said, "We received a tip and contacted the operator (Cheonma) to confirm the details of the video," but added, "The police have no knowledge of the connection to the Daechi-dong drug incident, and such a statement was never made."
