Former President Yoon Seok-yeol attends the first hearing on charges including obstruction of special official duty and abuse of power at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 26th. Yonhap News.
The special prosecutor's team, investigating allegations of rebellion and foreign exchange violations related to the 12.3 emergency martial law, summoned former President Yoon Seok-yeol as a suspect on the 15th.
Park Ji-young, deputy special prosecutor, stated at a briefing that day, "Regarding the investigation into foreign exchange allegations, former President Yoon is currently at the detention awaiting questioning."
Park explained, "The special prosecution requested an arrest warrant for former President Yoon on the 30th of last month in connection with the foreign exchange charges and received it on the 1st. Subsequently, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act, the execution of the warrant was directed to Seoul Detention Center on the 2nd."
He added, "The Seoul Detention Center was scheduled to execute the arrest warrant around 8 a.m. today, taking into account the trial schedule. When a correctional officer first informed him of the warrant's issuance and the execution plan, former President Yoon expressed his intention to appear voluntarily, and the warrant was not executed."
The special prosecutor's team had previously notified former President Yoon of his attendance on two occasions, the 24th and 30th of last month, in relation to foreign exchange allegations, including the 'deployment of drones to Pyongyang,' but these attempts were unsuccessful as Yoon did not comply.
