A Raptor lands at Osan Air Base. Yonhap News.
U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) has reportedly sent a letter of protest to the South Korean government regarding the special prosecutor's search and seizure at Osan Air Base.
According to diplomatic sources on the 16th, USFK recently sent a protest letter signed by Deputy Commander David Iverson to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the letter, Deputy Commander Iverson expressed concern over the special prosecutor's search and seizure of the Air Force's main Air Defense Control Center (MCRC) within Osan Base on July 21st, stating that consultations with the U.S. Forces should have taken place in accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA).
In response, neither USFK nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed their positions.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had also posted on social media prior to the inter-Korean summit in August, asking "What is going on in Korea?" and saying, "I heard they even went into our military bases and gathered information."
Regarding this, the special prosecutor explained on the 16th that "SOFA was not violated."
