  • Arrived at Incheon Airport just one day after the local joint autopsy… Police also wore black ties and white gloves

Remains of university student who died in Cambodia returned to homelandThe remains of Mr. Park, a university student in his 20s who was tortured and murdered at a criminal complex in Cambodia, are being handed over to Senior Superintendent Ahn Joong-man of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency's Criminal Mobile Division at Incheon International Airport on the 21st. Yonhap News.

The remains of Mr. Park, a South Korean university student in his 20s who was tortured and murdered at a criminal complex in Cambodia, were repatriated to South Korea on the 21st.

Korean Air flight KE690, carrying Mr. Park's cremated remains after an autopsy, landed at Incheon International Airport at approximately 8:04 AM on the same day. This marks 74 days since his body was discovered on August 8th.

At around 8:44 AM, Senior Superintendent Jang Jin-wook of the National Police Agency's Scientific Investigation Operations Division, who participated in a joint autopsy locally the previous day, emerged from the arrival hall carrying an urn of ashes wrapped in a white cloth.

The remains were received by Senior Superintendent Ahn Joong-man of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency's Criminal Mobile Division, who had been waiting in advance. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr. Park's death.

All individuals involved were dressed in black suits, ties, and white gloves. They bowed their heads to each other as a sign of respect during the handover of the urn.

Senior Superintendent Ahn is scheduled to deliver the remains of the deceased, now a silent spirit, to his family. The family did not appear at Incheon Airport on this day. The police also did not hold a separate interview, respecting the family's wishes.

Police officers and airport security personnel were lined up at Incheon Airport to prepare for any eventualities. In a solemn atmosphere, police officers, also wearing white gloves, observed the repatriation of the remains.

Repatriation of remains of university student who died in CambodiaThe remains of Mr. Park, a university student in his 20s who was tortured and murdered at a criminal complex in Cambodia, are being repatriated through Incheon International Airport on the 21st. Yonhap News.

The repatriation of the remains occurred just one day after the joint autopsy was conducted locally.

Given that Mr. Park's death has triggered public outcry in South Korea regarding crimes against South Koreans in Cambodia, Cambodian authorities appear to have cooperated with the repatriation process with unusual speed.

The autopsy, involving six officials from each side, took approximately three hours and was conducted the previous day within the Tak Tla pagoda in Sensok, a central district of Phnom Penh.

Following the autopsy, the body was cremated, and the immediate repatriation of the remains was decided. Mr. Park's body had been kept in the pagoda's mortuary for over two months since August.

Mr. Park had traveled to Cambodia on July 17th after telling his family he was going to an exhibition. He was subsequently imprisoned and tortured at an illegal syndicate known as 'Wench'.

He was found murdered inside a vehicle in the Bokor Mountain area of Kampot Province on August 8th, less than a month later.

When local police discovered Mr. Park's body, signs of torture, including bruises and wounds, were evident. However, police stated that the joint autopsy the previous day revealed no damage to internal organs.

The exact cause of death will be determined by a comprehensive review of future tissue, drug, and toxicology tests to be conducted in South Korea, as well as the ongoing investigations in both countries.
