Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, is seen during his keynote presentation at the developer conference (GTC) held in Washington, USA on the 28th (local time), announcing the construction of seven AI supercomputers in collaboration with a laboratory under the U.S. Department of Energy. AFP=Yonhap News.
Nvidia is set to support U.S. Department of Energy laboratories with AI supercomputers equipped with its graphics processing units (GPUs) and will also participate in the construction of the 6th generation (6G) communication network in the United States.
During his keynote address at the developer event (GTC) held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. on the 28th (local time), Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced, "The Department of Energy has decided to collaborate with Nvidia to build seven new AI supercomputers." This year's Nvidia developer event was held for the first time in Washington, the U.S. capital.
These supercomputers will be built based on quantum computing and are scheduled to be installed at Argonne National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory, both research institutions under the Department of Energy.
Considering that these laboratories also conduct research related to nuclear weapons and nuclear energy, the supercomputers being built by Nvidia will be applied to key research in the U.S. defense and energy sectors.
CEO Huang indirectly suggested that this collaboration is a result of close cooperation with President Donald Trump, stating, "Deploying national capabilities to support energy growth was a complete game-changer. I thank President Trump for this."
Nvidia also announced plans to improve power efficiency by equipping Nokia, a Finnish telecommunications equipment company, with its newly developed wireless communication AI computer, 'Arc,' for its 6G base stations.
"The communication network is the 'spine' of all industries," Huang emphasized. "We will make the United States the center of 6G communication."
In relation to this, Nvidia plans to invest $1 billion in Nokia to acquire a 2.9% stake.
On the same day, CEO Huang also unveiled the NVL72, a system integrating 72 of the company's GPUs onto a large, shield-sized rack.
Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, is seen during his keynote presentation at the developer conference (GTC) held in Washington, USA on the 28th (local time), announcing collaboration with ride-sharing platform Uber on autonomous driving technology. Yonhap News.
He also announced a partnership to integrate 'Hyperion,' Nvidia's autonomous driving technology, into the ride-sharing platform Uber.
Through this partnership, Uber plans to deploy and operate 100,000 robotaxis starting in 2027.
CEO Huang revealed that while the cumulative sales of Nvidia's previous GPU architecture, 'Hopper,' since 2023 have been only $100 billion, the sales of its subsequent models, 'Blackwell' and 'Rubin,' have already surpassed $500 billion this year alone.
He also unveiled 'Omniverse' computer, a Physical AI solution that can be utilized for robots and other applications.
He emphasized that Omniverse computers can be used for constructing new manufacturing facilities in the United States.
Seemingly aware of the cybersecurity and security threats arising from AI advancements, he also disclosed collaborations with cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike and security firm Palantir.
Regarding Palantir, known for its close collaboration with the U.S. government, he stated, "We partner with Palantir to accelerate everything they do. Palantir will process data at the speed of light for government, national security, and more to derive insights."
CEO Huang reiterated Nvidia's recently announced mass production of GPUs in the United States, stating, "America has started making semiconductors again," and about its semiconductors, he emphasized, "Made in America, for the world."
This statement appears to align with President Trump's policy of revitalizing domestic manufacturing in the U.S.
The decision to hold Nvidia's developer event in Washington, where it has primarily been held in Silicon Valley, is interpreted as an effort to maintain close ties with the U.S. government.
Throughout the event, CEO Huang repeatedly expressed his gratitude to President Trump and concluded his keynote address with President Trump's catchphrase, "Make America Great Again."
Nvidia's stock price rose by nearly 5% compared to the previous day, closing at $201.03.
