  • The BBC apologized and the editor resigned, but no compensation measures were taken.

President Donald Trump speaks with reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, the 14th.

President Donald Trump suggested on Friday night, the 14th, that his legal team still intends to pursue a defamation lawsuit against the BBC, despite the broadcaster's recent apology for editing a clip of his speech to make it appear as though he was inciting violence.

Trump's lawyers had first warned of a $1 billion lawsuit on Sunday if the broadcaster did not issue a correction, an apology, and compensation for misleading editing related to a Panorama program aired last year.

The BBC apologized to the president on Thursday for the misleading editing, admitting it had given the wrong impression and fallen short of its standards. However, it did not agree to compensation.

"We'll probably be filing a lawsuit next week for between $1bn and $5bn," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "I think we have to. They admitted they did a dishonest thing. They changed my words."

Referring to a 60 Minutes interview with the former vice president, Trump said, "That's worse than what CBS did to Kamala (Harris). They changed her answers, but at least they didn't make it look like it came out of her mouth."

The BBC broadcast spliced together remarks Trump made at the White House on January 6, 2021, where he declared that he and his supporters "will walk down to the Capitol and support our brave senators and congressmen," with remarks he made about an hour later stating that Republicans "fight like hell."

The clip instead edited the remarks to make it seem as though the president said: "We will walk down to the Capitol... And I'll be with you. And we will fight. We will fight like hell."

Criticism of the program led to the resignations of BBC Director-general Tim Davie and Deborah Turness, the CEO of BBC News, on the 9th.
