A public opinion poll shows that a majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump and the Republican Party succeeded in ending the longest-ever government shutdown after 43 days.

According to the results of a poll conducted by CBS News from February 13-14 (local time), the day after the shutdown ended, among 1,288 American adults and released on the 16th (margin of error ±3.3 percentage points), 55% of respondents answered that President Trump and the ruling Republican Party gained more of what they wanted and were successful in ending the shutdown.

Only 6% answered that the opposition Democratic Party was successful.

By party affiliation, 50% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans believed Trump and the Republicans were successful.

Conversely, 15% of Democrats and a mere 2% of Republicans believed the Democratic Party was successful.

Furthermore, 55% of Democrats stated that the Democratic Party conceded too much, while only 17% of Republicans said the Republican Party conceded too much.

These survey results indicate growing dissatisfaction among Democrats towards their own party, which was also relatively evident in the responses regarding their emotions after the shutdown ended (multiple responses allowed).

When asked about their feelings regarding the shutdown negotiations, Democrats responded with frustration (48%), dissatisfaction (45%), pessimism (32%), and relief (27%). Republicans responded with relief (50%), satisfaction (44%), optimism (34%), and frustration (12%).

This shows the significant frustration felt by Democratic supporters regarding the shutdown ending without securing substantial concessions from the government and the ruling party on extending subsidies for the Affordable Care Act (ACA, also known as Obamacare), which were set to expire at the end of the year, leading to a breakdown in negotiations amidst defections from some centrist lawmakers within the party.

Regarding healthcare, the biggest point of contention in this shutdown, 65% of respondents expect health insurance premiums to increase in the future, while 29% predicted no change.

In an overall assessment of the handling of the shutdown, 35% of respondents approved of President Trump's performance, significantly lower than the 56% who disapproved.

However, approval for the Democratic Party was only 20%, with 60% disapproving, a more severe outcome than for President Trump.
