A US version of Netflix's hit series 'Squid Game' is in the works, according to US media outlets including Collider.

A recent addition to the new project list on the website of Hollywood organization 'Film and Television Industry Alliance' (FTIA), cited by local media on the 20th (local time), includes the series 'Squid Game: America'.

The site's post lists the start date for filming 'Squid Game: America' as February 26th of next year, with Los Angeles (LA) as the filming location. Along with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, the name of renowned Hollywood director David Fincher is also listed as part of the production team.

The project's synopsis reads: "This spin-off, an American version of the Korean hit series, is set in the same universe, but we will see how those games are handled in the United States."

US media outlet Collider reported, "Although director Fincher himself has not yet confirmed this, it is specific news about the US version of 'Squid Game' that has emerged after several months."

The outlet speculated, "If filming begins in early next year, the most likely release date would be mid-2028, possibly around Christmas, when both seasons 1 and 2 of 'Squid Game' were released."

In an interview with Korean reporters in June, director Hwang Dong-hyuk denied rumors that he would oversee the US spin-off, but he left room for future possibilities.

At the time, he stated, "I haven't heard anything officially, and the talk about filming starting in December and me directing is all baseless," but added, "I really like David Fincher, so if I were to receive a request, I would seriously consider it."

Director Fincher is a Hollywood master who has directed numerous box office hits, including "Seven," "Fight Club," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Zodiac," and "The Social Network," starring Brad Pitt. He has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director three times.

Netflix has not yet officially commented on the production of the US version of 'Squid Game'.
