U.S. President Donald Trump said on November 27 (local time) that one of the two National Guard soldiers who were shot the previous day near the White House in Washington D.C. by an immigrant from Afghanistan has died.
On Thanksgiving, America's biggest holiday, President Trump said during a video call with U.S. soldiers from his Mar-a-Lago resort home in Palm Beach, Florida, "I have to say, I just heard that one of the National Guard soldiers, Sarah Bixby, 20, female, has passed away."
He described Bixby's death as "a terrible thing," emphasizing that Bixby, who enlisted in June 2023, was "highly respected, a great person. She excelled in every way."
President Trump reported that the other soldier who was shot, Andrew Wolf, 24, male, is still in critical condition and said, "I hope we hear better news about him."
President Trump described the shooter as a "monster" and added, "He is also in serious condition, but I won't even talk about him."
