On the 20th, the People Power Party issued a statement urging the government and the Democratic Party of Korea to immediately accept the introduction of a special prosecutor (SP) concerning allegations of receiving money and valuables from the Unification Church, stating it is a mandate from the people.

Lee Choong-hyung, spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated, "Regarding the Unification Church gate, 62% of the public believes an SP should be introduced to investigate, while only 22% responded that there is no need to introduce one," adding, "67% of those who identified as supporters of the Democratic Party agreed to an SP."

He continued, stating that the Democratic Party is stubbornly refusing the SP, claiming there is "no concrete evidence or new facts," and countered that "the investigation is to uncover the evidence and facts."

Spokesperson Lee further emphasized, "Even though Yoon Young-ho, former global headquarters director of the Unification Church, has already provided concrete testimony, it has been revealed that Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki suppressed and concealed it for four months. What else do they want to cover up?" and stressed, "An investigation is precisely what is made to uncover evidence and facts."

He also raised his voice, stating that the reality is that "the public cannot trust the police investigation, which is subservient to the administration," and that the 'special prosecutor system' is essential to ensure the independence and fairness of investigations.

Furthermore, he criticized, "The Lee Jae-myung administration's specialty is special prosecutors. They have initiated all sorts of political special investigations, such as the national mobilization SP, the Kim Keon-hee SP, and the Marine Corps SP, and now they are spewing sophistry by saying, 'A special prosecutor is a supplementary investigative agency.'" He added, "This is not something the Democratic Party can say, as they have abused special prosecutors by seizing all ongoing investigations by the prosecution, police, and Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials."

Finally, Spokesperson Lee asserted, "The time when a special prosecutor is truly needed is now. If the Democratic Party obstructs the introduction of a special prosecutor to evade the Unification Church gate they are involved in, this goes beyond hypocrisy and is akin to concealing a crime. If the Democratic Party genuinely wishes to speak of justice, they must respond not only to special prosecutors targeting the opposition party but also to special prosecutors aimed at themselves. The overwhelming majority of the public is demanding a special prosecutor."
