  • Following federal fraud investigations underway in California and Minnesota

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 28th (local time) that he would nominate federal prosecutor Colin McDonald as the first Assistant Secretary of the newly established National Fraud Unit under the Department of Justice.

The establishment of this department and the new position come after federal fraud investigations conducted in California and Minnesota. In particular, the Minnesota fraud scandal drew national attention due to the immense scale of fraud within the state's social welfare programs.

While Trump did not disclose much information about the alleged election fraud in California, he generally stated that people "stole hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money."

Trump posted on Truth Social, "I am delighted to nominate Colin McDonald as Assistant Secretary for the newly established National Fraud Unit within the Department of Justice. This unit is one that I created to catch and stop fraudsters who have been stealing money from the American people."

He added, "Colin McDonald is a very smart, tough, and respected America First federal prosecutor who has successfully delivered justice in some of the most difficult and significant cases in our nation's history. Together, we will end fraud and restore integrity to federal programs. Congratulations, Colin. Stop the fraud!"
