The USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group has been confirmed to have received orders to move from the Caribbean to the Middle East.
This deployment will result in two aircraft carrier strike groups and their escort vessels being stationed in the region. The USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group arrived in the Middle East two weeks ago.
The USS Ford had previously moved from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean in the fall of last year, preceding an operation to apprehend Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
President Donald Trump has called for "swift" negotiations with Iran, even specifying a timeline of within the next month for these talks.
President Trump possesses a unique insight into the Iranian government, and his proposed negotiation deadline does not necessarily mean he will wait until then.
Two days prior to the Midnight Hammer operation, which involved striking Iranian nuclear facilities with bunker busters on June 21, 2025, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated, quoting President Trump's message: "Based on the high probability of negotiations with Iran in the near future, we will decide whether to go within the next two weeks. This is the President's direct statement to all of you today."
Given that the decisive strike operation was carried out just two days after the announcement of a decision to be made within two weeks, it is possible to analyze that President Trump's mention of "over the next month" does not mean he will wait until the end of the month.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources from the Department of War, that the USS George H.W. Bush carrier strike group is being considered for deployment to the Middle East, with a potential operational deployment within two weeks, and that such an order could come within hours.
President Trump also shared the relevant Wall Street Journal article on Truth Social, lending weight to the possibility of it being true.
However, President Trump ordered the Ford, which was already deployed, to move to the Middle East, not the Bush.
This appears to reflect the President's intention that the Trump administration cannot guarantee the outcome of negotiations with Iran and that military action may be required sooner than expected.
Currently, the USS Bush (CVN-77) aircraft carrier is known to be training in the nearby Western Atlantic, with Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia as its homeport.
According to the Associated Press, the USS Ford began its operational deployment mission in late June 2025 and will reach its eight-month deployment period two weeks later. The AP noted, "It is uncertain how long the ship will remain in the Middle East, but this deployment will require the crew to undertake an unusually long mission."
