Bart Marcois, former U.S. Department of Energy Assistant Secretary, has become a topic of discussion by sharing a Hanmi Ilbo YouTube video ahead of President Yoon Suk-yeol's first-instance trial ruling.

Marcois posted on social media platform X on the 16th a Hanmi Ilbo YouTube video titled ‘[Subtitle News] Kwak Jong-geun Caught Lying Again About the Quorum’ (February 14th), stating that his son Steven (account name) requested the share.

The video, uploaded by his son Steven on the same day, includes the title ‘Shocking Korean Breaking News’ along with a plea for help.

In a meeting of the three, Kwak Jong-geun relayed the president's instruction, saying, "Please have the agents withdrawn from outside." Rep. Park Sun-won immediately corrected him in a low voice, saying, "Withdraw the lawmakers."

Rep. Kim Byung-joo then took up the statement and completed the sentence by saying, "Have the National Assembly members in the plenary hall pulled out."

The YouTube video clearly captured the scene where the word ‘agents’ became ‘lawmakers,’ and then further changed to ‘National Assembly members in the plenary hall.’

This is an astonishing 'phonetic change' and a nonsensical 'sentence mistranslation' that would make even netizens in the U.S. grab their necks. However, the surprise is not over yet. Even more absurd events unfolded afterward.

Kwak Jong-geun, Who Claimed No Instructions Were Given, Perjures on 'Quorum'

When Rep. Kim Byung-joo led the conversation, asking, "Why were you instructed to withdraw them? The quorum is not met..." Kwak Jong-geun stammered, "Well, I can infer that, but it wasn't a matter of receiving instructions on what purpose to do so..."

The scene then shifts to the courtroom.

Regarding the ‘lawmaker withdrawal’ allegations, the presiding judge asked Kwak Jong-geun, who appeared as a witness during the 6th hearing.

“Did you receive an order from the defendant (President Yoon Suk-yeol) around 00:30 on December 4, 2024, via a secure phone, stating that the quorum has not yet been met, to open the National Assembly doors and have the lawmakers inside the assembly leave?”

Kwak Jong-geun, who had previously stated he received no such order, changed his stance and replied somewhat incoherently, "When the President spoke about the quorum, we watched the YTN screen together. We saw the YTN screen showing the National Assembly members at the top. When he said that, how could I forget that?"

Judge Ji Gwi-yeon pointed out, "The question is whether you remember the earlier conversation or not." Kwak Jong-geun responded, "Regarding that part, I only remember the quorum."

The video concluded with the remark, "False testimony intended to deceive the public and frame the president for rebellion cannot be justified by any political purpose. We hope Kwak Jong-geun realizes his mistake and reveals all truths now."

The sight of Democratic Party lawmakers inciting the alteration of testimony, which affects the fate of a nation's president, in front of the public, and Kwak Jong-geun shamelessly perjuring himself in court, has drawn expressions of concern not only from Koreans but also from American figures.

On social media, voices hoping for the truth to be revealed are rising, with comments like, "If President Yoon is sentenced to death or life imprisonment due to Kwak Jong-geun's perjury, it will be a crisis for Korea and an international disgrace."

President Yoon Suk-yeol's first-instance trial ruling is scheduled to be held on Thursday, February 19th, at 3 PM in Courtroom 417 of the Grand Courtroom at the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by the Criminal Division 25 (Presiding Judge Ji Gwi-yeon). The Special Prosecutor's Team for Rebellion has sought the death penalty for President Yoon.

This trial marks the final ruling by Presiding Judge Ji Gwi-yeon before her transfer to the Seoul Northern District Court on the 23rd.

Meanwhile, on January 3rd (local time), Marcois commented on X regarding the arrest of Maduro in the United States, stating, "Korea is included in the process of dismantling Chinese allies like itself," and "President Trump is systematically eliminating all forces that have the power to harm the United States."
