Trump speaking at the Medal of Honor ceremony [Reuters Yonhap News]
Two days after launching an attack on Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump made his first public appearance on the 2nd (local time).
On the morning of the 2nd, President Trump presented medals to three individuals recognized for their service in World War II, the Vietnam War, and the war in Afghanistan at a Medal of Honor ceremony held at the White House in Washington D.C.
This marks the first time President Trump has appeared in public and spoken in real-time since U.S. forces began their attack on Iran in conjunction with Israeli forces on the 28th of last month.
Previously, President Trump had expressed his stance through video messages (pre-recorded) posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, on the 28th of last month and the 1st, and conducted phone interviews with various media outlets.
The selection of the Medal of Honor ceremony as President Trump's first public event since the start of the war is interpreted as an effort to boost the morale and patriotism of U.S. troops engaged in the war with Iran, and to solidify their combat readiness by honoring America's 'war heroes'. It also suggests an intention to influence a shift in domestic U.S. public opinion, which has been less than favorable towards the attack on Iran.
Regarding the four soldiers who were the first casualties of the war, President Trump stated, "We mourn the four heroic American soldiers who fell, and we send our love and support to their families."
In his speech at the ceremony, President Trump declared, "No matter how long it takes. We will get it done," and referred to the war with Iran as something they "expected to take 4 to 5 weeks, but we have the capacity to continue longer than that."
President Trump emphasized, "We have the strongest and most overwhelming military in the world right now, and we will win easily."
He added, "We are already substantially ahead of schedule," and stated, "We expected it to take 4 weeks to remove the military leadership, but as you know, that was completed in about an hour."
This statement refers to the numerous military and regime officials, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who were killed in the airstrikes conducted by U.S. forces alongside Israel immediately after the war began on the 28th of last month.
In relation to the achievements of this military operation, President Trump said that ten Iranian vessels were sunk, adding, "Those ships are at the bottom of the sea."
He also stated, "We are also destroying Iran's missile capabilities, their ability to produce new and quite good missiles."
