While both the U.S. and South Korean governments are praising the U.S.-Korea trade agreement as a success, voices of criticism have emerged from within the United States, arguing that it was "not handled properly."

Grant Newsham, a senior fellow at the Security Policy Center (SPC), posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday afternoon that "The Trump administration has done many good things, but not here," pointing out that "Lee Jae-myung and his inner circle are pro-North Korean, pro-CCP, and anti-American. And they are making this fact clear."

He criticized the situation by stating that "(the Lee Jae-myung administration) should be treated like the Brazilian regime," adding that "the State Department and others have failed to handle this issue properly."

These remarks came as he quoted a post by attorney Gordon Chang, who wrote, "Lee Jae-myung is coming to Washington in two weeks. Let's show him how we feel about the man who turned South Korea into a leftist dictatorship."

Newsham was a member of the international election observer group that visited South Korea during the early general election on June 3rd, and he is a figure who has been bringing the issue of election fraud in South Korea to the attention of the international community while serving as chairman of KCPAC.

In another post on X, he noted that "South Korea's new leftist regime (pro-North, pro-China, anti-American) got a good deal," but pointed out that "they would have paid much more for U.S. approval of their June election 'victory' (despite evidence of fraud) and for U.S. tacit approval of their efforts to destroy the opposition and create a one-party state."

This is interpreted to mean that the current trade agreement is merely a small price to pay for U.S. endorsement of the Lee Jae-myung administration.

Quoting a post by Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick announcing the conclusion of the trade deal with South Korea, Newsham said, "Nice words, but this is a small price for the South Korean leftist regime (pro-North, pro-China, anti-American) to pay to gain the U.S. government's approval for their questionable 'victory' in the June election and their continued suppression of the opposition." He added, "Lee Jae-myung would have paid much more than $450 billion."

The $450 billion figure includes South Korea's import of $100 billion in energy products, $150 billion in shipbuilding industry investments, and $200 billion in investments for projects designated by Trump.
