About 1,400 residents were evacuated as extreme heavy rainfall poured down, primarily in the southern regions, starting on the night of the 3rd.


According to the heavy rain response situation report released by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at 11 p.m. the previous day, 1,415 people from 1,044 households in 13 cities, counties, and districts across four provinces and cities have been temporarily evacuated due to the heavy rainfall.


In Gyeongsangnam-do, 1,307 people were evacuated, followed by Busan with 29, Chungnam with 64, and Jeonnam with 15.


No casualties or facility damage have been reported yet.


In Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, a man in his 60s who was swept away by the strong currents around 8 p.m. the previous day was found in cardiac arrest. However, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated that they are verifying whether the death was due to a natural disaster.


In addition, access to 14 national parks, 74 riverside parking lots, and 96 causeway bridges has been restricted.


The Ministry of the Interior and Safety upgraded the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters from Level 1 to Level 2 at 11:30 p.m. the previous day, as heavy rain warnings were issued for Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, and Ulsan regions.


The flood and typhoon crisis warning level has been raised from "Attention" to "Alert."


The Korea Meteorological Administration announced in its weather information at 7:50 p.m. the previous day that Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, excluding the southern coast, would receive 100-200 mm of rain, with up to 250 mm or more, by the morning of the 5th.


It was also predicted that the southern coast of Jeollanam-do would receive 80-150 mm of rain, with up to 200 mm or more.


Cumulative daily rainfall from midnight to 10 p.m. the previous day included 289.6 mm in Muan, 231.0 mm in Gunsan, 168.5 mm in Hampyeong, and 139.0 mm in Gwangju.
