Rain will continue in the central and Honam regions until the morning of the 4th, a Monday. Afterward, the weather will clear up and be sunny on Children's Day.
On the 3rd, rain fell across the country due to a low-pressure system moving from the northwestern Yellow Sea to the East Sea.
Rain is expected to continue in the central and Honam regions, as well as in southwestern and northern Gyeongbuk, and Jeju until tonight.
Precipitation will continue until dawn on the 4th in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland Chungcheong, eastern Jeolla, and Jeju. In Gangwon and northern Gyeonggi, rain will persist until the morning of the 4th. In the high mountains of Gangwon above 1,000 meters where temperatures are low, snow may fall and accumulate by 1-5 cm.
In Gangwon, due to severe atmospheric instability, small hail (hailstones less than 5 mm in diameter) may fall, so precautions should be taken to prevent damage.
The amount of additional rain expected is 5-30 mm in Gangwon Province, 5-20 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, 5-10 mm in the West Sea Islands, Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk. Less than 5 mm is expected in Gwangju, Jeonnam, southwestern and northern Gyeongbuk inland, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and Jeju Island.
Strong winds will accompany the rain.
On the 4th, strong winds of around 55 km/h (70 km/h in mountainous areas) will blow in most regions. Strong winds are expected to continue on the 5th in the mountainous areas of Gangwon and the east coast.
Rough seas are also expected. In the outer waters of the central Yellow Sea, Jeju waters, and the outer waters of the South Sea, winds will blow strongly at 30-60 km/h (8-16 m/s) and waves will reach 1.5-4.0 meters until the afternoon of the 4th. In the outer southern waters of the East Sea, these conditions will persist until late afternoon on the 4th.
Especially from tonight in the outer waters of the Yellow Sea (excluding the outer waters of the central Yellow Sea), and from dawn on the 4th in the East Sea (excluding the coastal waters of the Yellow Sea and the southern outer waters of the southern coast), winds will blow strongly at 30-65 km/h (8-18 m/s) and waves will begin to rise to 1.5-4.0 meters, potentially leading to the issuance of a rough seas advisory. Therefore, it is important to check the latest weather information.
In addition to the rain and cloudy skies, cold air is flowing in behind the low-pressure system, keeping temperatures slightly lower than average for this time of year until Children's Day.
The morning low temperatures on the 4th are expected to be between 7-11 degrees Celsius, and the daytime highs between 16-21 degrees Celsius.
Expected morning lows and daytime highs for major cities are: Seoul and Daejeon 9°C and 20°C; Incheon 9°C and 18°C; Gwangju 9°C and 19°C; Daegu 10°C and 21°C; Ulsan and Busan 11°C and 20°C.
On Children's Day, the 5th, morning lows will range from 4-13°C and daytime highs from 18-24°C. Inland areas will experience a daily temperature difference of around 15°C.
