Representative Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) revealed on Monday that congressional settlements for sexual harassment have exceeded $300,000 for several former lawmakers.
Mace pledged to hold victims accountable and stated that the House of Representatives paid approximately $338,000 to resolve these cases. One former lawmaker was involved in three sexual assault lawsuits, for which the House paid a total of $115,000 to settle these cases.
According to Politico, the House Oversight Committee summoned detailed records of government compensation payments in March through a committee vote and requested a full report of all payments made prior to the termination of the settlements in 2018.
Mace posted on X, "This is a cost borne by you, the American people." She continued, "Taxpayer dollars were used to silence victims of harassment by members of Congress. We promised to release the names of those involved. Here are the names and the amounts."

The list includes former New York Democratic Representative Eric Massa three times and former Michigan Democratic Representative John Conyers once. Other individuals on the list include former Texas Republican Representative Blake Farenthold, former Pennsylvania Republican Representative Patrick Meehan, and former Louisiana Republican Representative Rodney Alexander.
The office of the late former New York Democratic Representative Carolyn McCarthy was also listed in the documents with a settlement of $8,000.
The largest payments went to claimants alleging misconduct by Massa ($85,000) and Farenthold ($84,000). All three of Massa's settlements were paid in 2010.
This disclosure comes after Congress passed a bill in 2018 prohibiting the federal government from paying settlements for sexual harassment lawsuits filed by members. No payments have been made since 2017.
"All records prior to 2004 have been destroyed," Mace said. "That alone tells you everything about how long this has been covered up."
